Engineering News March 2017

CME Elliot Powick of Stafford Road Design has finalised the CAD work necessary to enable GER 789’s frames to be erected. An annotated PDF of the frame assy can be downloaded by clicking on this link  F5-0001-R3a

Erection of the frames by Tyseley Steam Locomotive Works this year is dependent upon them being relocated due to a dearth of free space. To avoid any unnecessary delays preliminary discussions have commenced with the North Norfolk Railway (NNR.) Trustee Director Keith Ashford of the Midland and Great Northern Joint Railway Society  (M&GNJRS) has been assigned to the task of liaising with The Holden F5 Steam Locomotive Trust to explore the possibilities of continuing the build of GER 789 at Weybourne, NNR.

NNR’s Engineer Peter Phillips described the construction of GER 789 as “a prestigious project and a locomotive built for purpose and ideally suited to the needs of the North Norfolk Railway.”

The NNR’s recent purchase of Chatham Steam Services has given rise to a comprehensive engineering facility at Weybourne capable of further progressing the build of GER 789.
